It seems as if most modern fishermen have at lleast one tattoo. My father, a former fisherman in his mid sixties, has never had a tattoo. My grandfather, an old school captain, didn't have any tattoos either. I have a bunch of uncles, and only a couple have tattoos.
My question is, are there any fishermen on DC that don't have tattoos? My dad claims that sailors have had tattoos practically from the beginning of time, but old time fishermen were often tattless. He thinks many of the younger guys got theirs in the service or were following a trend.

Nowadays of course "tatts" are in style whether you're a fisherman or not. Though Captains like Phil were glad to turn themselves into walking (body) art galleries but I'm sure there are still a few fisherman like "Preacher Pete" Liskey of the Lady Alaska who would mever DREAM of defacing 'God's Temple' with inked "graffiti"....!
For the longest time Armed Forces everywhere discouraged the acquiring of tattoos by service personnel, no doubt because of possible infection or transmitted disease due to the of "dirty" equipment. Nevertheless. you supposedly displayed some kind of "Machismo" if you defied officialdom (and common sense) by sporting a really great anchor or eagle on your bicep!
With today's supposedly "sanitary" tools and parlors those earlier concerns now seem groundless. Tattoos and even body piercings are acceptable --as long as they're "covered" by the Uniform.
Which brings up the subject of "earrings" ....but that's a matter for a whole other thread!

One of my uncles who was in the Navy got a tattoo of an anchor. Josh and Jake(Phil too) are tatted up. Freddy has them and so does John. I wonder if Andy has any ? He seems like one of the guys who may not have one. I'm not sure who else has them. All I see now is people with tats. My sister almost had heart failure when my nephew came home with one for his 18th birthday. He just got a second one !

My daughter has a very nice black and gray tattoo on the left side of her back. She had it done at Kat Von D's place in Los Angeles and paid big bucks for it. I would have objected if I had known beforehand but must admit it is very well done and easily covered by clothing. She says she would never get another one because of the pain. Hers took two hours to do. I think the tattoo and piercing craze has gotten out of hand, especially with women. Some have way too many, to the point it becomes ugly. And like darianagle said, earrings and piercing is a whole other matter. But to the original subject, does Sig have tattoos? I do not remember seeing any.

Thanks for your input. I've seen so many tattoos on DC that I was wondering if there any non-decorated fishermen. These are the ones that I think are ink free: Sig, Norman, Pete Lisky, Andy H.
