Sorry doder, when I move a thread, it doesn't allow me to put in the correct name under "created by". It defaults to my name. I'm not doing it on purpose. It doesn't let me change it.

Great article doder, thanks!. I wonder who the crewman was who was "famous for getting fired and crying about it", Dosnt surprise me they are asked to busy themselves on a stormy deck just get the shot, but what type of "dangerous situations" are being faked at the dock??

A sailor who slips and falls between his boat and the dock could risk being crushed to death UNLESS said boat is "Fended Off", by giant inflated "bumpers" and/or husky guys with long, very sturdy poles (all out of camera view of course). Or a cargo crane may "threaten" to drop a 1-ton pallet of provisions onto some oblivious deckie who may be well out of harm's way, but through the "magic" of telephoto lensing, appears to be almost directly underneath it. Is this what you mean? doder, I don't know how you manage to find this stuff but PLEASE keep it up!

Interesting article. His comment about fisherman dying so people can eat crab, as if eating crab is a crime, is a bit inane.

Interesting article. His comment about fisherman dying so people can eat crab, as if eating crab is a crime, is a bit inane. It does seem harsh. (And to think I once worried about men dying because I loved eating "battered" North Sea Cod...! ) I think the Author is upset by the fact that men who fish for the "lowlier", more widely-consumed species are in fact at greater risk, but don't get admired or even "appreciated".

Sounds a bit like Russell from the Time Bandit? It seems like since crab changed to the new quota system it's gotten safer. Not as much cowboying going on and the boats and crews are safer and have better training.

His firing was a very public and personal thing, since they had been friends for years. Even though the industry has gotten safer since the derby days, and maybe not as dangerous as lumbering, Its still a hell of a scary way to make a living. I wouldn't want MY sons to do it.

Actually, these days I would be more worried about my son wanting to be a policeman. But I digress...

To me I don't think Russel was the one crying about it. There was another who got fired from a boat during season six on the f/v kodiak. His name would be Clint.
