Very informative. So, if I read the article right, the two new owners own 50%. So. how many shares does Casey own? Sounds like Josh may not be majority holder after all. Hopefully, the new owners with Casey's % will get the CM back to the job she was built to do and show Josh that the CM is a working boat and not just for show. I am glad to read that the new co-owners are looking after her.

"McManus, Thomas and Toivola were all on board for sea trials"
Someone seems to be missing...

"McManus, Thomas and Toivola were all on board for sea trials" Someone seems to be missing... Must not have been cameras on board. I think it was mentioned previously that Casey owned 25%, so if the new owners have 50% then that leaves Josh and Jake with 25% between them. Although it's possible Jake sold his percentage to the new owners?

Although it's possible Jake sold his percentage to the new owners? That would mean equal shares between all if Jake sold his shares (if he had any to begin with, IDK) Of course Josh wouldn't be there, no cameras to mug for and it is play time for him anyway. Wouldn't it be nice if the other 3 owners made Josh stay or just leave. I really hate his smugness and BS. In my book, Josh can just go away. I would be perfectly happy not to have to listen or see him. :-)

If this ownership arrangement is actually correct - it reminds me of how the Devlin's controlled the CM before. What is also interesting is the condition the boat was in when Josh bought it. Seems the Devlin's did little upkeep from day 1 as to major items. A complete refitting after 30 years (including engines, etc) is not unheard of. Remember what the Time Bandit had done and the Hillstrand family does take pride in what they own. To completely replace decking including metal and concrete (why is that used anyway)is a big deal. Does anyone have direct access to the ownership documents that should be on file with both the USCG and State of Alaska F&G department? Even the fishing permits will show us more than what we have been offered so far. Can King Cove help with this?

Phil replaced the engines though, so they aren't that old.

Its good the Cornelia is getting some serious tlc. I cannot count how many times those engines crapped out on Phil. Not knock on the mechanic Norm they brought in constantly but he would fix it. Then he would be back at for another season tearing into the engine again and again. Not sure if Norm told Phil to buy new mains because of editing from filming.
Josh and Casey couldn't ask for better partners. I think Jake sold his share. casey has 25% and now josh has 25%. The partners have a combined 50% of the boat. Hopefully Josh with pressure from the other three owners and step up and be a crabber not just a television boat owner kinda of a captain.

Phil replaced the engines though, so they aren't that old. i think phil just repaired the engines. if you own 25% of a boat, you are entitled to 25% of the profits but you are obligated to 25% of the expenses.

Are the new owners assigning some quota away from the Deception? If not, how are they managing to lease so much more when Keith seems to be having trouble doing such? If it is about more leased crab, my bet is that the new CM owners are getting far less a percentage than the norm. They reeeeeeeeally need to bring in cash, whenever possible.
Right, Josh? Maybe this time you'll be outvoted when an offer for more Tanners comes your way?
Something super fishy is going on relative to the story of the engines. Phil absolutely out in new ones no more than a year before he passed. No way would they be "tired" or otherwise require replacement. It's fine that the new owners did. Capital investments are a very good thing, generally. They didn't need to overstate things, though. We never get straight stories about the CM. Ever. Do we?

Keep in mind who the majority owners were when Phil was alive. The Devlin's ran the boat into the ground every year. Phil got the worst of it as shown for many seasons. I do not remember seeing new engines being put in - but do remember the many times the CM was being repaired due to cylinder failures. Even Casey found an overhaul was needed after the boat sat out crabbing for 2 years (at dock according to Johnathan Hillstrand). Look at the show scenes in the companionway where Derrick made his discovery of sorts. The paint will tell a sorry story as to the condition of things at that time. We have no idea if the CM ever had a really major refit like this one anytime in the past. I do not blame the Harris's or Casey for the sorry state -thank Morgan Howard and his mother and other Devlin clan for it. Boats are money pits and Josh has admitted on tape that he is seeing just that. His budget figures were way too low, even if nothing had been replaced. Is he a true fisherman - only time will tell if that is his real calling. Did Jake sell his share - we do not know? How about someone checking the ownership, permits that are on public record. Some info may not be public if the business is closely held. And for those wondering - did Casey have quota of his own? The new partners appear to be well established in the industry and have sufficient capital to get the Cornelia Marie to where it can be profitable again. Will they work behind the scenes or actually be on the boat? We do not know.
As viewers we now know with certainty that Jake Anderson will not be driving the CM this year. He will take the Saga out for Elliott (he admitted to being involved with Passages in the tease). Sig was asked about it. I think Jake will return to the Northwestern for quite some time. We also know that he is a happy father of a healthy boy. He did the right thing by staying with Jenna as planned.
That's my 2 cents for now.

From this article it looks as if they are replacing the Deception. Will the CM now have four captains next season?

I agree, it was an interesting article. I don't remember Phil ever replacing the engines on the CM. however, I do remember them breaking down a lot and Phil going back to Dutch to get them fixed. I always thought the Devlin family took the cheap way out, the CM always seemed to have more break downs than any other boat.
Josh did a "Live DC Chat" the end of April and said Jake still owned a percentage in the boat. So, I guess from the article the business contact was signed in early or mid April, which means he still owns a percentage. Josh & Jake went from majority owners to minority owner of 12.5% - which is the same amount when Phil passed. In one sense I am surprised Josh especially gave up so much a percentage of ownership of the CM. I never thought it would happen. I think he just did not have the capital to keep up with everything and obviously does not have the desire to put in the time and energy to run the boat. I think Casey did bring some quota with him when he bought into the CM. I had read an article which said Josh also owned a very small percentage of quota. So, sounds like the two new owners brought a ton of quota with them.

At least the new owners are willing to spend the money for the much-needed repairs. I guess if the new owners & Casey got together, they could force the Harris' out. Guess Josh is crying in his beer due to the fact he is now part responsible for the cost of a major overhaul. That will definitely cut into his partying money.

I for one, am all for seeing new faces on the CM as long as Casey stays on and Josh goes away. Sorry, but I think that boat has way more potential with the new owners and Casey at the bat. I mean helm.

I agree with you greatlakes. Josh is there only because DC cameras are there. If he is really serious about being a captain, then do it away from the cameras. Don't mug for the cameras or talk to the cameras like you know what you are doing. We all know that it is nothing more than B.S. being shoveled by Josh.

The same article in the link that Doder posted was also published in the most recent issue of National fisherman magazine. They got a mention on the cover.
Casey told me last year that they were working a deal with an engine manufacturer to get some engines installed in exchange for some advertising. I will be looking for mention of the Cummins engines and expect to see Cummins logos during DC episodes.

Thanks for the heads-up, King Cove!
Hmmm...maybe the boats could sell Advertising Space to augment their incomes? Lots of room on those hulls and wheelhouses for "Corporate Logos" promoting Lubricants, Marine Paints, Electronic Nav Equipment... Discovery could reap MILLIONS!

Oh no...the boats would look like NASCAR!!! LOL Hey, it works fo THEM!!! I'm honestly surprised we haven't seen more product placement on the series. Pro Bass got some props in with shirts and hats. Next we might see Coke bottles in the Galley, Shell when the boats fuel up, etc. Speaking of which, I'd actually like to see a boat getting fueled. I can see it now: ding, ding, ding, ding....an hour later...ding, ding, ding. :-D

Severay people playing with their cell phones, when they are probably way out of range. Casey displaying the Trident logo all the time. IIRC, Jake H's TV clearly displayed a logo, and they took care to tell us about the low price.

Yeah, that scene with Jake buying the tv was soooo scripted. Past logos included the Dunkin Donuts coffee in a galley, Geigo Insurance mugs on the TB, Keith's Pros Bass bb caps, etc. Casey has been wearing those Trident bb hats and t-shirts for two years now. I did notice that a bb cap logo was taped over last week on I think the Cape Caution.

I forgot: I presume Keith's Cup'o'noodles is a brand name and not a generic term?
