Watching the Legend of the Time Bandit again. Some of my favorite moments of the entire series are the rare occasions that Jon is contemplative and thoughtful. I don't like some of his antics, but those times he is reflective, I find very touching.

Jon's not getting any younger, and his body is letting him know that all things come to an end here on earth. Most of us get that way...especially when the grandkids start getting born...

What I can't get over is how SLIM most of the Captains used to be!

Health scares do (or at least SHOULD) change your outlook. I know that since I conquered breast cancer, I look at life differently. Plus, my husband has survived two pulmonary embolisms. Life is precious. I try to live peacefully and lovingly with my family, my friends, and all I come in contact with. Jon has probably mellowed a bit since his health issues. I have always thought that deep down he is a gentle soul. I pray that he will have many years ahead to enjoy his kids and grandkids.

It was nice to see it confirmed on The Bait, that Jon, inside, beneath the tough guy, is a kind man. A marshmallow, who knew? lol

As one gets older, it takes too much energy to work up a good "tantrum"!

You've all pretty much covered what I've been thinking off and on. I am surprised at how well those captains are doing healthwise. I know they work hard, are under tremendous stress during the fishing season, and have or do abuse their bodies. My mother who is a small woman and has never been overweight, has heart disease. There is no family history for her. She doesn't smoke or drink, and hasn't since her college days over 45 years ago. She has eaten healthier than most. She does have a history of high blood pressure though. Last year after a recommendation from her physician, she went to a cardiologist. He discovered that she had a 90% blockage in the area that they call, "the widow maker." I can't remember the name of the artery. She had a stint placed, and scared all of us in the process. My aunt, her older sister has been smoking like a chimney for about 45 years. This aunt was in tears when she heard about my mom. In some ways good health is luck of the draw, or so it seems. Congratulations Nannyb on concuring breast cancer.

scottsgirl, the last time I met with my oncologist, she told me that there is one thing I should fear more than recurring cancer -- heart disease. Ladies, take care of your heart.

Nannyb - I was just thinking about you the other day and wondering how you are doing. I am so happy that you have concurred breast cancer. Scottsgirl-I too think good health is sometimes the luck of the draw. I see people at work eating the worst junk and they have no known health problems. I am thin, exercise, and have HBP and high Cholst., which I inhert. from my mother. Go figure... I always enjoy those old specials, it is amazing how much everyone has aged. And, amazing the number of greenhorns that have come and gone.

scottsgirl, the last time I met with my oncologist, she told me that there is one thing I should fear more than recurring cancer -- heart disease. Ladies, take care of your heart. "Partial Congestive Failure" on the left side of my heart caused me to develop a condition that once went by the unlovely name of "Dropsy" (it's now called "Anasarca"). I steadily gained weight even though my Blood Pressure was LOW and my Blood Glucose Levels were "perfectly normal". Friends were convinced I had to be "pigging out" -- although the exact opposite was true!!! After a forced trip to the ER, and some "major medical intervention" I shed 50 lbs in a matter of months, all of it excess fluid that had been allowed to build up due to poor blood circulation. My Doctor told me that the condition I suffered from can develop so gradually that most victims don't seek help until they're really, really sick!
