Ok, I am an avid DC viewer who has never missed an episode. If I had a chance to be on one of the boats, since day one it would be with Sig & Edgar, and Phil back in the day. Sadly Phil is gone.
So this is about Josh. I applaud the fact he took over the CM as an owner and I am sure he has a huge debt load. But lets face it. WHY did Josh do this. I know he said it was to honor Phil and keep a legacy going. But has ANYONE seen any fire in his belly to really make it happen??
Lets go back to the start of the season when Casey realized the pots were not legal. It put them out of commission for 10 days. Where was Josh. The cameras showed him in the wheel house and all he could say was HE was the Captain and sat back and played with his phone and chain smoked. Even Casey was on the dock helping. If I were the captain, I would have been down there busting my ass to get it done and get the hell out fishing. But not Josh!
So far, have we seen Josh pull more then 50 pots? He may have but the film crews don't show it. How many times has he spouted off about I am the Captain and just sit on his ass. When things get tough in the wheelhouse, Josh makes Casey take over and Josh sits across from him with his feet up on his smart phone.
That is not earning trust with your crew. Last week, Josh played the big shot and spent $5K on the Super Bowl party. Money he doesn't have.
This week, Josh is sitting in the wheel house with music blasting to the point he can't hear the guys he is responsible for down in a sewage filled hold fixing rudder problems. When Casey yells for Josh to turn the joy stick, he turns it the wrong way and almost takes Casey's hand off. At that point Captain Casey was pissed enough to vent and say on camera, Josh probably has his Facebook and texting up to date. Then when Casey was in the wheelhouse, Josh still sat with his feet up and Casey was boiling at that point. Casey had to walk away and Josh didn't have a clue why he was so pissed nor did it seem to bother him.
It's really sad. But so far, Josh unlike Jake Anderson has NO fire in his belly at all. Josh LOVES saying he is a captain but as far as I can see, the greenhorn has earned more respect on the boat then Josh.
Obviously even though the series is not over yet, as an avid fan I also follow the CM on Facebook and Captain Casey has posted many photos and info that after the crab season, the CM got a VERY MUCH needed refit with new engines and a total rebuild of the galley and crew quarters. So they must have ended up with a decent year as I expect that had to cost about $250K+. Thanks to Captain Casey.
Josh needs to deflate his head, step up and REALLY take control to save his respect, a good crew and the boat. If not, go away, be a silent owner and let Casey run the thing. I also am deeply upset that Jake who was obviously a really smart kid in the start is basically a worthless human being who cant get his act together. I feel really bad for him but it was ALL Jake's choice. YES, your dad died. Mine did too and it was hard but I moved on in HIS honor. Jake Anderson in reality went through WAY more personal suffering with his sister and father then the Harris boys. Jake got his shit together, got his Captains license, learned everything he could about a boat from Edgar and worked his ass off on deck. I would bet money, Josh couldn't even change a fuel filter at sea let alone fix major issues!
Bottom line, wake up Josh. As far as I am concerned, I am almost at a point watching the show where I fast forward through anything about the CM, just as I did when Elliot was the Captain of the Saga.
I know this sounds like a Josh hate fest but it isn't! I was SO behind him doing this and he has let mainly himself down!!!! Who cares about the fans! I hope when the balance of the show airs, we see a NEW Josh before the end of the season and going forward!
And BTW, I am a soon to be 27 year old who has traveled a good part of the globe on research ships for the last 6 years earning my Masters Degree and who has also earned his 100 ton Masters license!. SO I know what it takes to pilot a much bigger ship and also be a respected person in the wheelhouse at a young age.
