It seems that the boats are arriving at Dutch for the new season.

No sign of Cape Caution or Saga right now. 10/7@1:54 UPDATE: Northwestern (Norwestern) and Seabrooke are docked in Dutch Harbor @ 7:30pm est 10/7/2015 Wizard and Saga are not listed.
UPDATE: 10/8/2015 @ 11:35EDT Cape Caution is docked. Wizard may be in Dutch but transponder not showing.

The remnants of Hurricane Oho is headed toward Alaska. Let us pray that all of the fleet will be safe.

Received an update from Marine Traffic this morning. Northwestern and Cornelia Marie are on the move. Amatuli is docked.

Let's hope they get their permits before there's another government shutdown then.

With Marine Traffic, I've found all of the usual DC boats around Dutch Harbor (and a few old ones like the Rollo), with the exception of the Saga...it was there on Friday but isn't on the live map now. I find it fascinating watching them bounce back and forth around the area...especially showing their recent tracks.
I was wondering if anyone could answer...if they fish blue crab near St. Matthew, or offload crab at St. Paul, will they show up on marine traffic?

I was wondering if anyone could answer...if they fish blue crab near St. Matthew, or offload crab at St. Paul, will they show up on marine traffic? If I understand the system correctly, they only show up on the free public tracking page when they are close to Dutch Harbor. I know people that can tracks boats just about anywhere when they have their AIS tracker activated. I think this is a paid subscription service. I know my boss has it, but he has declined to give me the password for it. I've never checked in to the details of the service.

On marine traffic, several boats made the same track at the same time. This includes the Cornelia Maria, Time Bandit, Northwestern, and Wizard. They all left from slightly different locations, and seem to have rallied at a point near the Holy Ascension Cathedral. Then they headed out of the Harbor at the same time, turned around and came back.
I think this may have been for the shots in the show, where all the boats are in a line, entering the harbor together.
The Saga has had its locator turned off for two days, so I don't know if it participated. I found some other boats that were familiar, and I thought may be on the show this year, but they did not participate - Seabrooke, Rambling Rose, Rollo, Early Dawn, Far West Leader. I couldn't locate the chase boat either.
Neat to think that they are out there, about to start.

The season is underway. All of the boats, except Ramblin Rose, have left Dutch Harbor.

A few minutes ago, on Marine Traffic, the Saga was north of Dutch Harbor, heading out.

If i am not mistaken king crab season started on the fifteen. I would like to think they hit big on a biomass but I think there is a mechanical problem.

They've said that it takes a few days to even get to the crab grounds from Dutch Harbor...so I don't think the Northwestern could already be offloading. The Kodiak has already come back to Dutch Harbor and left again. Hope all is well.

King crab grounds aren't much more than a day's run from Dutch Harbor, most likely they are coming back for another load of pots.

the plant in King Cove started their first load of king crab on Monday, the 19th,and have been running steady since. Seems like fishing is good for the fleet. Incentive delivered yesterday and the Time Bandit is delivering tomorrow. Saga is delivering on Sunday. I'll try to find out who is running it.

The boats don't have to wait in harbor until the 15th do they? I thought they could leave anytime and be on their chosen grounds waiting for the start to come over the radio. I'm sure we've seen that before. I see the Cape Caution is in. www.marinetraffic.com/en/

I see the Cape Caution is in. www.marinetraffic.com/en/I believe that they have to have a tank inspection within 24 hours of the opening to be sure they have not been fishing illegally. That can usually be done either in Dutch Harbor or King Cove. They can haul pots out prior to the season and leave them in designated shallow water pot storage areas with the doors tied open, but they need to be inspected immediately prior to the season opening. The opening is always at a pre designated date and time,so I do not think an announcement comes over the radio.

Oh, I guess when we see a pot poised on the launcher the countdown is coming from the wheelhouse. Pathetic, isn't it? You'd think that after what seems like half my life I'd have figured out the basics by now, wouldn't you? Good grief. I do so love my avatar.

I am going to take a guess and say it is not Jake Anderson running Saga. Rather Ray from last year who ran The Saga last year while Jake pretended to be the actual captain of the boat

I think Sig and of course Edgar are happy for him. From what I seen on facebook Matt Bradley is still retired. Even he has stated he misses crabbing. So I am taking a shot a what The Northwestern crew looks like: Edgar, Norman, Nick, Karl and Scott Badger from last year. I have a feeling Jake during King Crab will be asking for intell from Sig for King Crab. Going off of this past season Sig got pretty pissed off when Jake didn't follow through on the agreement of the partnership.
Also I am guessing with the king quota down we will see The Cm, Time Bandit and Saga go out for Bardi.
