I just learned that the advance price was posted for this year's king crab season by one company in particular was 8.40/lb. This is the price paid to the boats for live crab. The advance price is what is agreed to pay before the fleet goes fishing. Most processors are in the same ballpark as far as advance price, as they all study the same markets and base the price on market conditions.. There may be other individual agreements with boats or co-ops that may allow for a higher price paid, and there is often a price adjustment months later if the market conditions turn out better than expected.
This can give you an idea of the dollar amounts these guys are earning.
