So I had this crazy notion last night while looking at Sig's stack leaving Dutch only 1/2 covered by a tarp.
Why don't they mount a couple of Reddy heaters or similar on the deck, fuel them from their fuel tanks, and run metal ducting to direct heat basically all over the stack? If they make a little 10x12 room and pop in a couple big ole torpedo heaters for this example, ducts could be run down the side of the boat and vented towards the stack I would think pretty easily. Is there something I am missing about this?
*disclaimer* I am not an engineer, mariner, heater salesman, or anything like that. Just a random thought in the hopes of maybe helping someone come home to their family that otherwise might not have.

Generally, ice is being made when it's extremely cold coupled with high winds and freezing sprays. The high winds and freezing sprays absorb all the heat before it could get to the stack. I don't think there's a heater out there that could fit on a boat that. Some add tarps, but those don't always stand up to the winds. I have seen guys wrap rails, cranes and other equipment with stretch wrap.Supposedly the ice doesn't stick to plastic so easily. I have heard that some boats pipe their engine coolant through their rails and have some success, but it's not very common. To me that seems like a good idea, but I'm not an engioneer either.
