Okay here's a thought.....
Let's be frank (or Joe, or Tommy if you prefer). The Time Bandit's losing fans and "air time". Keith and The Wizard drastically polarize viewers. Nobody seems to like Elliott or the Saga. The Seabrook is b-o-o-r-ing and the Cape Caution doesn't exactly "resonate" with a lot of folks as Wild Bill, like Keith, comes across as a little bit "Raw". It's good to have the Cornelia Marie back but Opinions of Josh Harris are mixed --to put it kindly. This leaves that Old Veteran, The Northwestern. whom MOST p[eople seem to like, along with Sig, Edgar, and the whole Hansen Clan, plus Jake A..
WHAT IF Discovery decides to "Spin off" the Northwestern and focus entirely on it, the Hansens. and Jake A. next Season: Would that "Fly"?

This was originally the NOTICE ABOUT THE BAIT thread, but I think it is quite intriguing as a stand alone subject, so I gave it its own thread. The idea and the post are all darianagle's.

No. The Northwestern alone would not be enough to keep my interest. And also.. what doder said.

The only boat I would not miss is the Saga.

I'd be very happy to have an hour-long show every three months or so which was devoted to the NW. Wouldn't have to be a Disco production, either.
I'd also be very pleased for there to be some documentary specials as to the workings of a cannery, Dutch Harbor, and other related fishery doings.

No, there's already some indications that the NW has to make up drama for the airtime they get now, so I can't even imagine what it would be like for an hour-long show. Plus home life would probably be added, which I am just not interested in. Once home life is added, all shows go the way of the soap opera.

I like the NW, but a show on just them would grow old quickly and the next thing we know would be all the bs made up drama. It would turn into a soap opera - like it isn't already lol. I like watching other boats but wish they would drop Elliott and Jr. Why not pick up Murray or some other boat. I guess King Cove could answer this:is it difficult getting new boats who don't want to put up with DC ?

If Murray wanted to be on DC, he probably wouldn't have quit on the CM. IIRC, they portrayed him as confused and unable to find crab the seasons he was captaining it, so I guess he got pissed off and left.

It was posted somewhere that Murray absolutely refuses to have anything to do with the show anymore. Not sure if it was here or on the old Disco boards.
I'm not King Cove, but it seems to me that any of the newer boats try too hard to create drama when they get on the show. The Kiska Sea, Saga, Seabrooke, etc. have all been that way. I think they believe they have to do it to compete with the original boats. I find it annoying.

I think they believe they have to do it to compete with the original boats. They are probably right. The boats that don't create drama don't stay on the show for long.

A few years ago somebody (maybe on the old Disco board) posted a link to a youtube video of a stationary camera filming a deck of an alaskan crab boat while pots where being hauled. Don't know the boat, but as I recall, the comment posted with it said something to effect that a well run deck is pretty boring to watch. And it was. A group of guys doing their jobs efficiently. Now the weather was pretty good, so there were not big waves crashing over the deck. As the NW is a well run boat, a whole lot of manufactured drama would be required to make it interesting. Unfortunately, the Saga would be a much better candidate. Blech.

Even with its drama, the Saga would never be able to carry a whole show. It has no fan base. I'm good with the rotation of the boats, including Junior who may be dull and Keith, who at the very least is an intriguing person and self made man. Some of his decisions and behaviors may infuriate me, but I still find them interesting in a strange way.
I dislike Elliot and the Saga and don't like the fact they are on because of what they represent: the Kadashianization of the show. I'll go as far as say I really don't want to hear about anyone's sex life on the show, see their manwhoring, or have a front row seat to any of their baby mama dramas. I'm a big girl and realize non of these guys are saints, but keep the dirty laundry in the hamper.

There's a saying among Airline Pilots: "If you can't leave your worries on the ground, STAY THERE!" Change 'ground' to 'dry land' and you've got a great motto for Crab Skippers...

I have to agree, I like the rotation of all the boats, not including the Saga , even the supposed "boring" ones. BUT, I think it'd be kinda cool for them to do a spin-off focused on the NW, but only if Disco. produced DC at the same time, meaning have a spin-off show for the NW and DC. For ME personally, if they did a spin-off show, I wouldn't mind seeing home life mixed in with the fishing aspect. Although, I really can't see Sig & Co. agreeing to have camera crew following them at home, I suspect they get their fill of that while at sea, but we can dream What I wish Disco would do is come out with a DVD set, with all seasons of ATC & The Bait & all of the BTS specials. I know they're on the DVD sets of DC, but I want a DVD set with just ATC/The Bait & BTS stuff.

I almost think it is the opposite and they might want to add some boats to follow. i wasn't crazy with this last season with the NW and Sig having his daughter on the boat. I just didn't find this story line entertaining or necessary and found myself fast forwarding after a bit. I also like Wild Bill with his raw personality and Keith is ok.
I like the idea of an above message showing the cannery, St Paul or Dutch Harbor and I would add those darn tug boats who really saved the CM this season. The ratings were high for this time slot on cable so it is likely there will not be too much change next season. But I can't understand their demographics really being interested in seeing Elliot's custody battles, rehab, his girlfriend who appears pretty dumb or Mandy....
Does anyone know if Elliot is even with this girl today?

For the right price, I think any of these captains would let DC follow them home;)
