Ramblin Rose delivered some bairdi in King Cove on Sunday and Kiska Sea delivered another load on Monday. I believe Kiska Sea is now done for opilio season.

Kodiak unloaded in King Cove a couple days ago with Murray running it. They are one of several boats that have been fishing non stop since October. They started with Gulf of Alaska cod, then fished king crab, then bairdi, than Bering Sea cod, then started opilio. He still has one more trip to make, then he was going to take a couple weeks off,and come back for salmon tendering.
Another boat delivered here in King Cove that fished 485,000# of king crab,100,000# of bairdi, and 2.5 million pounds of opies. Started in October and only took three weeks off before finishing earlier this week.
Not a life I want to live!

Years ago, after I read a book about an Arctic Trawler, I actually felt guilty about sending men into such extreme hardship and peril just so I could enjoy my nice hot fish-and-chip suppers! (I still do...but I now realize I'm also helping to pay them.)

Not exactly a sighting, but I see that the Saga is shipping their summer groceries here to King Cove, so they must be tendering for the company I work for again this year. The rumor (strictly a rumor at this point) is that Elliot lost his job on the Saga, and will not be getting it back.

I imagine that the Saga probably could not be insured if Elliot was still on the boat. Sad.

I have not yet heard who is running it this year. Northwestern tenders for Trident Seafoods out of Sand Point,AK, and I rarely see them in King Cove

I see. I remember Bob posting when he took over doing tendering on the saga when elliot did it. He said the boat was a mess. No knock on Elliot. Any who he was saying when he came back from the saga back to the rose. The captain who ran the rose for salmon always left the boat better then bob left it. He mentioned improvement via the captain. Any idea King Cove who this captain would be?

Saga is at the dock in King Cove today, loading tender gear and groceries. Have not yet seen the captain.
UPDATE Bob Perkey is running the boat for tendering. They are still at the dock this morning

Yeah I saw on his facebook status the saga was an absolute mess.
'May 14 at 7:19pm ·
I'm in dutch with 3 of my crab crew doing shipyard on the saga.its been an eye opening experience.were replacing all the crab piping bilge piping and some refrigeration cooling pipes.the level of neglect and just don't give a shit is off the charts'
'May 18 at 7:52pm my crew has been working very hard to get the engine room up to snuff for tendering.it's a very dirty job we should have mike rowe here doing a episode of dirty jobs.the guys have been in the bilge chipping and scraping to get 20 years of crap out.when there done it will be clean painted and safe'
'May 27 at 6:19pm ·
we've replaced all of the crab tank piping in the engine room.also a lot of hydraulic work,to get the saga ready for tendering.so this boat will be home for the summer then it's probably back to the rambling rose for the winter.the saga is in rough shape, kind of like the rambling rose was when we got it.the saga is a better boat it just needs a lot of work.i would like to have the saga for crab,i don't know if that will happen.i'll just have to wait and see'

I'm guessing Elliot doesn't have Bob Perky on his FB? I can't imagine he'd be very happy with him making it publicly known the state of neglect and disrepair Elliot and his partner have allowed the boat to get in.

So, was the Saga just in very bad shape from years of neglect or just recent neglect? Does anyone know how many trips Jake A. took the Saga out for Opies?

Rollo is at the dock today, getting ready for tendering.
I sat in a meeting yesterday that included Bob Perkey,so can say with 100% certainty that he is on the Saga for tendering.
A tender came through here yesterday and I was told that it was being run by Zack Larsen. I didn't see him with my own eyes, but I trust the source.

I saw he was tendering the sister boat of the cape caution. I believe it is called the kona Kai
I don't know about if it was recent neglect. I know when perkey first ran it was a mess and cleaned it up. Comes back and does the same. Also from perky posted Elliot is indeed fired from the saga.

Did Elliott's partner buy him out? I thought Elliott was part owner of the Saga, along with an owner of the RR. So, who is the true owner of the Saga?

i believe his name is lenny herzog? he owns rambling rose and the saga. elliot he isn't full owner as he tells you always. he owns a small percentage of the boat.

I'm not totally familiar with the ownership of these boats, but do know of one guy who has interest in both boats. Zack's inexperience showed immediately,as he almost put the boat on the beach right in front of my house! No damage, except for maybe a few nicks in the props from the gravel.

Lenny has at least part ownership in at least two other big boats,Tempo Sea and the Aleutian Sable, both of which are at the dock in King Cove right now. I think there are a couple Bristol Bay gill netters in the mix as well. In the small world category, the Aleutian Sable is run by a guy I went to high school with in Washington.

Cornelia Marie arrived in King Cove today. I don't know yet who was driving when they came to the dock, it wasn't Josh, and Casey was on the bow, tossing the tie up line. I'll update when I know more.
Also, Travis Lofland is in town working on a tender called the Echo Belle.

The guy lies so much, it's obvious he has no moral fibre...also can you confirm %100 that he's been fired from the saga...? Because in his twit #, he still claims as of May 19- to current today...he's still the captain and "sole owner" of this vessel. I am in Italy, and I can tell you speaking with a few fisherman in Naples yesterday, they watch DC but think it's a joke as well as EN....! So now pretty much EN is dislike across the World...what an honour EN...!!

I can't confirm anything other that the facts that opie fishing is over, he is not on there now for tendering, and when he originally took over running the boat, he did not own any of it. Whether he bought more percentage of the boat as time went on,I don't know
