CM is at the dock now. Have not yet seen Casey. What I heard about Josh has not been confirmed yet, I'm working on that. Please don't speculate too much based on what I heard.
I do believe that he did own at least a part of the boat in the beginning. They did not get any crab quota with the boat. they had to find quota to lease. Casey told as much when Josh hired him. He later said that he acquired his 25% because Josh could not afford to pay him the first year.
Saga showed up today with Jake Anderson driving.

Just sat in an hour long meeting with several of our tender skippers, including Casey and Jake.
I learned that Josh does in fact still have his piece of the boat, and by the end of the last season, was stepping up a bit as a crab skipper. He is not on the boat for tendering.

That is pretty funny and confirms what Derrik Ray said a few years ago.
Also King Cove I checked Bob Perky's facebook page. He is taking the summer off so Jake is running the saga for tendering. Also it appears Bob is the new captain of the Seabrooke.
'Captain Bob Perkey and F/V Ramblin Rose May 15 at 1:14pm ·
opilio 2016 is over,in 24 hours i'll have the seabrooke in kodiak.tie it up to the dock and get on a plane.i can't wait to have a summer off it's been a long time, woo woo i'm excited'

Jake was around most of the day yesterday and we crossed paths a couple time. My impression was that he sort of acted like a whiny little kid. But our plant Chief Engineer spent some time working with him on some mechanical issues on the boat, including his refrigeration system. The Chief felt that Jake knew his equipment well and is pretty competent.
We will see how things develop after today. All fishing in this area opens up today and he will be delivering here for a while. When things are busy, it tests the limits of both boat and skipper. Not as physical as crabbing, but there is more pressure. Pressure from the salmon fishermen to get unloaded in a timely manner so they can catch a couple hours sleep and get back to fishing, and pressure from the cannery to make sure the fish are delivered as fast as possible, while still maintaining the best quality of the fish.
Stay tuned...

Thank you KC. More whiny Jake! I do not doubt that he pretty much knows what he is doing, he just whines about every little thing. Not good for someone who is almost 36 year-old.

I often wonder how some of these uptight captains like Jake behave when they get home, relating to their wives that is. Are they able to take off the captain's hat or do they continue to play big boss man in the home as well? I like to believe the wives are treated as equals and are given the respect they deserve for holding down the homefront for all those months the men are at sea.

I remember Sig saying that he tried to be captain at home but it didn't work at all - in any way. Captains trying to over power their households might be one of the reasons for the high divorce rate amongst them.

Just had a conversation with Jake. Saga is at the dock now delivering salmon and has been around here most of the time since early June. He's leaving tomorrow for some time off to spend some time with his family.
When he started tendering for the salmon season he seemed kind of needy and whiny, and had some mechanical issues with the boat. Over the last 6 weeks or so he has learned how to operate a tender and has overcome most of his mechanical issues with plans to fix the rest. He will be taking the boat to the yard in Homer,Ak in September getting ready for crab season. We have not had any complaints from the fishermen that delivered to the Saga for several weeks now. When the fishermen do not complain, we feel that things must be going well, because those guys complain about everything!!
It appears that Jake's first tendering season on the Saga has been a success.

Cornelia Marie came back last night from Bristol Bay. No Josh.
Headed out to Dutch Harbor today to tender some bait herring. Will come back in a day or two and head to Prince William Sound for more salmon tendering.

Today's FB features a live chat with Jake...just returned home from tendering...
And Josh...from a hotel in New York. About as far away from the CM as possible.

Cornelia Marie has been at the dock for several days now. Casey is gone and one of the other owners is on board finishing up tendering. Apparently they are having trouble with one of the new engines that was installed last year.
Kodiak was at the dock yesterday removing their tender gear.
Pink season all over the state has been a bust.
Kodiak went to Prince William Sound and only packed about 35000 # Cornelia Marie has not touched a fish since they got back from Bristol Bay. They will probably be removing their tender gear today.

A bit off topic here, but I'm curious!
KC -- I'm seeing a lot of "Wild Pacific Salmon" here (discretely) marked "Product of China". Is this "farmed"? Or is it actually fished for?

It is possible that it is salmon that was caught in Alaska, shipped to China for reprocessing, and shipped back to the US. One of the major processors in Alaska does this with almost all of their fish. I'm curious, does it specify if it is "pink" or "sockeye" or "red",etc. What product form are you seeing? Canned? fillets? Is there any fine print on the label that may have more revealing information? If you have a brand name, you might be able to Google for more information.

KC -- It's simply labelled "Wild Pacific Salmon" but looks and tastes (yes I tried some) like "Pink". It's sold as frozen "halves", skin on, bagged in poly, abut 2 feet long, --or cut into "salmon steaks",-- and carries the label "Northern King". A LOT of the frozen Seafood here is in fact marked "Northern King". Canada I believe does something similar with its Haddock and Turbot ... Ships the catch to China and it comes back boxed and Labelled but I can't recall the Brand Name. (Maybe "Blue Water" or "HighLiner"?) I wonder why North American Processors take this "round-about" route? Is it cheaper?

The fish is frozen twice? Doesn't that affect the quality and taste?

I'm not familiar with "northern king",but it would have to be a king salmon to have that large of a fillet. I would hope that if it's labeled "Wild Pacific Salmon" that it really is what it says. One particular company focuses more on volume than quality. They feel they can make more money freezing large volumes of fish and sending to China for reprocessing than they can freezing smaller volumes and focusing on quality.
