Someone like Elliot is probably in everyone's life. Yes, he is out of control - and yet, he has remarkable talent when it comes to engineering skills. My heart goes out to the guy because he is so unhappy and can't seem to figure out how to put his life together. Watching him makes me uncomfortable but not because of his antics. He is a train wreck and I keep worrying that his life is going to end sooner than later. He probably is not too much different from Phil Harris at that age. Phil abused (according to his own words) every drug we can think of.....yet, he became a successful crab fisherman. Phil's life was also out of control, according to his biography. Maybe Elliot will eventually be as successful as Phil was - if he lives long enough. Great post. The Phil Harris comparison is right on point. You probably throw in a few of the others in too. We are getting to see the example of the young out of control capt. The other capts we see are well beyond the age of Elliot and have somewhat figured out how to control their demons. I hope he figures it out.

maybe josh has decided to stop pretending he is a fisherman and actually become one. Well...I had an opportunity to spend a little time with Josh last night, and my first impression was not very good. I got the distinct impression that he is just along for the ride. But, this was only a first impression. I should see them again in July after they are done with Bristol Bay and maybe that impression will change. I was told last night that DC will be on board the CM filming tendering for a couple weeks. It will be interesting to see what kind of drama they come up with for buying salmon.

Whew. The earth is back on its proper axis!
Thank you sooooo much, King.
Gonna be fun watching the Bait captains talk their way around their low opinion/contempt for Josh.

'Deadliest Catch' filming 'tendering' ....hmm..doesnt sound very dramatic.....I think it demonstrates very nicely that the show assumes that people are still interested in Josh Harris. If they show the CM during opies, isn't that enough?

Pretty sure it's going to be a Legend of the Cornelia Marie special. These are usually done with a skeleton crew before pre-production starts ramping up in September.

Well that ought to be interesting. Hope they show it warts and all.

IMO, Discovery can save a bunch of money by NOT filming the CM or Josh Harris. Save money on the film, production, the cost of the DC crew and editing. Hope they don't use a chase boat.
I guess this means that what we have been saying all along is a true statement. Josh Harris is only doing it for the camera time.
Thank you again King for your info. Sad to think that the impression Josh gives on tv is the true impression of him.

CM left town today headed for Bristol Bay. They should be back through here in a month or so.

Wow.Just when I thought he may actually show us all, Josh goes and proves he is just as predictable as we suspected. Shame on DC for shoving his smug ass down our throats. Does he actually have that much of a fan base left?? I'm preferring Elliot more and more. On the up side, we can make a drinking game out of the CM scenes, Take a shot each time Josh says the words "Legacy" or " The Old Man" I'll be nursing a raging hangover Wed. morning .

His ego knows no bounds-captain in training? What an a$$. It is a shame when people prefer Elliott and his bs over anything relating to Josh. ITA, Elliott is looking better and better.

I figure that Josh has idealized his past somehow, and he assumes that nobody watched all those episodes where Phil talked about Josh not being a fisherman, and the stories of what went on when Josh and Jake were young. They may have fishing in their genes, but it sure didn't sound like they were being groomed to take over the operation.

think Phil was trying to groom Jake specifically to take over the operation. He wanted Jake to show initiative, but he saw Jake as the logical heir to the fishing operation. While Phil was alive, Josh made no secret of the fact he was on the CM to earn money and spend time with his father and brother. It was after Phil's death and Jake coming apart that Josh developed this interest to captain the boat. That and the realty of how he was going to be able to earn that level of money doing something else as a high school drop out.
I don't find anything particularly sinister about reality biting you in the ass and causing a 180 degree turn in life plans. What I lay at his feet is the sloppy, lazy, entitled way he tried to execute that turn. There is no way in Hell-O Kitty I am going to say I prefer Elliot. Elliot shirks his child support. Don't care how talented a fisherman he may be, that is a deal breaker.

It's unfortunate that Jake's genetics also included self-destructive tendencies and that he did not have enough time with Phil to work through them and move off the deck into the wheelhouse. Time will tell if Josh is sincere enough in his desire to run the boat to do the work off camera.
The ambivalence that Elliott showed when he entered treatment was quite interesting. As usual, we don't know how much of it was for the camera. At first he seemed to be doing it to satisify his father, which is never successful for long term sobriety. He then stated in the voice over that he needed to get his life together. Whether or not he is ready to do the work to get and stay clean remains to be seen.

If the show is going to be all about Josh and the CM from now on I think the season might be over for me.
I can't believe so many people are buying into the whole legacy BS.

OK, played the game greatlakesgirl and anitalalouise set up, minus the booze, cause I do work tomorrow and I want my vodka for making gravlax when wildcaught salmon goes on sale in my area in a few weeks.
I got 1old man and 1 legacy, that was it. It just would have been a nice buzz instead of a pass out and wicked hangover, but you roll the dice and take your chances in life.
Lame cliff hanger.

Haha! No doubt. Best part tonight was Edgars repair. I played Candy Crush on my phone during the CM scenes.
What was the big deal about Jonathan not going out for opies cuz of his BP? Hasn't he been sitting out winter fishing for several seasons now?

Jonathan is always with the boat during opies, he is just not the captain. Just like Andy is with the boat during king crab while Jonathan is captain. The BP he gave on the show is extremely dangerous, and he will stroke out like Phil if he does not make some serious changes very fast. The clock is ticking on Jonathan, and I am not being dramatic. Edgar is THE MAN.

Your right Mari. I guess I was thinking of the time he was going sport fishing or something during opies.

Blood pressure can be managed, but coronary artery disease is something else again. Jon has had multiple health problems over the years and he looks pretty spent. I'm glad he isn't fishing for Opies - I don't want to see another death on DC.

I agree bentwillow, the segment implied he has more than one thing going on. He did get a warning about his BP 2 years ago during the TB engine rehaul shoot, and it appears it has not been brought under control. He needs to get on a regime for both those issues, stay on, and get continuously monitored.
I hate cigarettes.

We'd love to see you! Maybe we can learn about the tendering process and not be so focused on personalities. Though I do recall seing a program that had the TB tendering for some fishery, can't remember which. But the TB was incidental as the show was about the boats catching the fish...netting them I think.
